If you have been following along long enough, you know that I love cooking with what I already have. I really don't like the idea of going to the grocery store just for one recipe and think we all can make so much more than we know with just the simple ingredients in our pantry. This idea rings true when it comes to savory cooking because you can riff and experiment so much more easily with savory ingredients.
Read MoreOne of my favorite stalls at the farmers market each week is the mushroom stand. It is guaranteed to wow and amaze anyone who passes by. The gentleman who mans the stand always has the usual mushrooms like shiitake or oyster but often times he will have the most gorgeous unusual mushrooms that are so unique looking, they almost look like they don’t belong on this planet! From creamy chanterelles, to lion’s mane, to the fluorescent orange of lobster mushrooms, I love that almost no two mushrooms look alike.
Read MoreGive me all the chocolate please. Well, let me rephrase that. Please give me anything that has to do with chocolate and peanut butter. I absolutely cannot resist that flavor combination. And don’t even get me started on what happens when you put them together in a molten chocolate cake – it is the most unbelievable dessert out there. You should probably go make it, right now.
Read MorePassion fruit wasn’t something I really discovered until I moved to California. Growing up in Florida, we didn’t have it for some reason. You would think that in a tropical climate like South Florida it would be growing everywhere. Maybe it was and I had no idea! (Which is a bummer because I love passion fruit.)
Read MoreI am a big fan of pizza and could probably eat pizza (or tacos) pretty much everyday of the week. Although that sounds delicious, it is probably not the most healthy of diets. Enter caulfilower pizza. When I want pizza but want one that is a little more nutritious, this is what I turn to. Although it is not exactly like pizza dough, this cauliflower pizza is pretty darn close.
Feel free to put all of your favorite toppings on the crust. I like old school pizza sauce, cheese and basil but the sky is the limit in what you can top with pizza crust.
Read MoreI love food brands that remind me of a time and place in my life. Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee at Home is one of those brands. Going to school in Boston, I like every other college kid in town, had an iced coffee every morning, even when it was below freezing and snowing. I even interned at the advertising agency that held the Dunkin’ account and made some horribly embarrassing advertising campaign for Dunkin’ Donuts as my final project that thankfully has been lost (hopefully).
Read MoreChicken pot pie is my ultimate comfort food. Ever since I was a kid, this has always been my favorite recipe….well let’s be honest, I was just in it for the biscuit topping.
Read MoreI have always been a fan of eggplant especially in the summer. Right now the farmer’s markets are overflowing with eggplants of all varieties. I love all the different color purples that range between the lightest almost white shade of purple to the deep dark almost black purples. I am constantly amazed by the color of fruits and vegetable.
Read MoreThis past summer we embarked on an epic European vacation. One of these days I will get around to posting some of those pictures here, but until then lets talk about this apple pie/apple cake situation that we encountered on our trip. The first leg of our trip was LA to Amsterdam. We later went onto Denmark and Sweden but for the purpose of this post, lets talk all about Amsterdam and that apple cake.
Read MoreI was recently reminded of how much I love scallops but I never seem to make them for some reason.
Read MoreWhen I was in cooking school I have the most vivid memory of my chef instructor telling me how when she was 8 she learned how to make choux pastry and would often make herself, as an eight year old!!, a plate of cream puffs. I love that image.
Read MoreI love this tasty chicken tacos recipe. It is one of my go to easy recipes that I love and don't forget about all the fixings to go on top like cheese, pickled red onions and avocado. I could eat Mexican food pretty much every night of the week.
Read MoreI have been eating this super healthy and delicious salad all summer long. It combines all the flavors I love in the summer: tomatoes, basil, avocado and fresh corn. I made this for my family recently and they went crazy for it, so I thought I would share it here too. When I first served it, I served it over a flank steak but I think it is hearty and tasty enough that is stands up all on its own.
Read MoreFelt like I hadn't done a proper pie in a while, so without further adieu, presenting my peach and blackberry pie with a herringbone lattice crust. Yes I know I got a little crazy with the crust but you can swap out for a regular lattice crust or just a double crust.
Read MoreWhat is it about banana bread that makes it so darn delicious. It is one of the few pastries/ desserts that I can't ever pass on. A warm piece of freshly baked banana bread is pretty hard to beat.
Read MoreI wanted to start a new recipe videos series where I take 1 basic recipe then show you how to create three different recipes with it. Sound good? Today we are talking about galettes. Galettes are basically pie dough that wrapped around fresh fruit or veggies. Since we are in the thick of glorious summer I wanted to show three of my favorite summertime galettes: stone fruit, berry and tomato.
Read MoreI have been making a version of this salad for the last 4 days straight so I wanted to share it here. It has given me a whole new appreciation for celery. I know what you are thinking - celery is so boring and bland but this salad proves all of those theories wrong.
